Borei Keila Residents File Criminal Suit Against Phanimex
One hundred and twenty families evicted from the Borei Keila community filed a criminal lawsuit with the Phnom Penh Municipal Court yesterday against Phanimex, the company that ordered the demolition of their homes, seeking a total of $360,000 in damages, residents said. Former resident In Srey Mom said the lawsuit named Phanimex chairwoman Suy Sophan as being responsible for the eviction of more than 300 families on Jan 3. adding that the 120 families who filed the suit were the last residents who had not accepted resettlement offers and continued to protest against the company. “We filed the criminal lawsuit against the firm because it completely damaged and demolished the houses and properties of our residents,” Ms. Srey Mom said, adding that each family was asking for about $3000 in compensation. ….
